The choice of TV is a very subjective and personal decision and before you buy, we strongly recommend that you compare as many LCD TV's alongside each other with SD and HD material on screen as you can. Any retailer worth their salt will go out of their way to help.
LED TVs are one of the most recent formats of TV. LED TVs belong to the LCD family with the screen being an LCD, but the technology is very different, resulting in a dramatically different image quality. LED TVs have grown in popularity since their introduction, mainly due to their slim bezel and outstanding image quality. LED TVs have many advantages over LCD TVs and as prices are reduced, they are becoming a first choice for many.
LED Technology
An LED TV has LEDs (light emitting diode) situated at the back (local dimming) or along the edges (edge lit) which project light where the image requires and therefore allow for a much thinner body. Local dimming allows darker areas of the images to be dimmed to display improved contrast and black levels. The use of LED lights provides a much slimmer bezel on an LED TV than standard LCD and plasma TVs, with some models having a depth of less than inch thick. This efficient method improves image quality along with helping to care for the environment by consuming a lot less power than other formats.
LED TV Size
LED TVs are available to buy in a wide range of sizes starting from as small as 20 inches going up to 65 inches. The viewing angle on LED TVs are similar to those on an LCD TV. An LED TV with a resolution of 1920x1080 will be high definition. The technology on board produces a high quality image
LED TVs & The Environment
One of the great factors of LED TV is the dramatic reduction in power consumption in comparison to LCD TVs and Plasma TVs. Edge lit LED TVs use the least power due to the number of LED's used and the low power level that they require. These models still produce a very high quality image, and will save you money on your electricity bill. The average plasma TV uses 301 watts, LCD uses 111 watts and LED TVs use approximately 101 watts. The materials used in LCD LED TVs are also environmentally friendly with no harmful gases used and recyclable frames. The LED lights used are mercury free which use less power, but also emit less carbon dioxide.
